This weekend, Summer Arts and Music Festival
May 2013
This weekend, June 1 and 2, the Mateel Community Center will present the 37th annual Summer Arts and Music Festival (SAMF) at the Benbow Lake State Recreation Area in sunny Southern Humboldt County. Kicking off Northern California’s summer festival season every first weekend of June, SAMF welcomes close to 8000 visitors throughout the weekend including people from all over our state and beyond who come to share in this eclectic, fun, family-friendly event.
With this year’s wonderful variety of musical acts from local t
o international, music lovers may even want to map out the acts they don’t want to miss at any of the festival’s four stages throughout the day. This year’s line-up includes such favorites as Diego’s Umbrella; Ivan Neville’s Dumpstafunk, Rupa and the April Fishes, Moksha and the Allstar Horns, Gaudi, El Radio Fantastique, Markus James and The Wassonrai, Indubious, Yogoman Burning Band, Candelaria, Alice DiMicele, The Bayonics and many more.
Festival attendees can enjoy a myriad of other attractions including circus acts, belly dancers, ballet dancers, pirates, puppets, and a whole host of kids’ activities not just to enjoy watching, but inviting kids to join in the fun of learning circus skills, creating neat stuff in the arts and crafts tent, jumping in the bouncy tent, role-playing in active story-telling and more.
With over 150 juried vendor booths of three different categories at SAMF this year, food, arts and crafts, and nonprofit information booths, attendees can feed their minds, bodies and souls. Select handmade arts and crafts from all over the country; an array of delicious, freshly-prepared food and nonprofit information on quality-of-life issues.
Watch a dance recital or belly dancing performance. Catch a musical act. Browse the fine arts exhibition. Grab a cold beverage and enjoy strolling the fairway in a leisurely search of one-of-a-kind treasures. Enjoy your selection of food from any one of the delicious food vendors. Stop at the beer tent to enjoy a glass of wine or beer with friends. As the sun goes down and stars begin to pop, dance to some fantastic music and let the great vibes of Summer Arts and Music Festival infuse your spirit…Summer has arrived.
